King’s College Hospital in London has confirmed a 13-year-old boy has died after testing positive for Covid-19.

The boy’s name was Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab, and he was originally from South London. A report by Sky News noted that the boy had no “pre-existing health conditions.”

A GoFundMe account set up in order finance funeral costs said: “It is with great sadness to announce that the younger brother of one of our teachers at Madinah College has sadly passed away this morning (Monday 30 March 2020) due to being infected with COVID-19.

“Ismail was only 13 years old without any pre-existing health conditions and sadly he died without any family members close by due to the highly infectious nature of COVID-19.”

The tragic news follows an announcement earlier that a 12-year-old girl had died of the virus in Belgium, making her the youngest fatality in Europe.

23 deaths were recorded across Ireland on Tuesday related to coronavirus, 17 in Republic of Ireland and six in Northern Ireland. The median age of those who died in the Republic was 84.
