Gardaí in Cork are treating it as a tragic incident

A 15-year-old boy has tragically died following an incident at a school in Co. Cork.

According to reports, an incident occurred at Skibbereen Community School on Tuesday, November 16th.

The pupil was airlifted to Cork University Hospital for medical treatment.

Gardaí has launched a full investigation into the teenage boy’s untimely passing.

Gardaí issued a statement following the harrowing incident. They said: “Gardaí are investigating the death of a male child, aged 15 years, following an incident at a school in Co. Cork that occurred today, Tuesday 16th November 2021.”

A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

Principal Anton O’Mahony issued a statement on behalf of the school this morning.

He confirmed one of the school’s 3rd-year pupils passed away suddenly.

“We have support structures in place to help your child cope with this tragedy. These include full access to our student support team consisting of Guidance Counsellors, Chaplain, Year Heads, Learning Support staff, teachers, SNA’s, and Management.”

“It is possible that your child may have some feelings and questions she/he may like to discuss with you.”

“You can help your child by taking time to listen and by encouraging him/her to express feelings. All children are different and will express their feelings in different ways.”

“Over the course of the coming days, please keep an eye on your child and allow him/her to express their feelings without criticism,” the school stressed.

“Although classes will continue, as usual, I anticipate that the next few days will be difficult for everyone.”

The principal has urged parents to monitor what their children post on social media in the coming days.
