A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in the UK following the death of a newborn baby.
Police in Herefordshire are treating the death of the infant as suspicious after discovering the body in a dwelling in Ross-on-Wye.
Superintendent Sue Thomas said that the newborn was found dead on Sunday morning after a call from a concerned member of the public.
“Police were called at around 8.40am on Sunday, 24 March to reports of a concern for welfare for a newborn baby at a property in Ross-on-Wye,” she said.
“On attendance, the body of a baby was discovered. The baby’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
“The death is being treated as suspicious and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.”
The 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail.
The investigation is ongoing.
