Penneys and other retailers are reopening tomorrow following a six week closure as Ireland grapples with its increase in coronavirus cases leading into winter.
And now as the festive season looms, the shops are due to open back up again. Among them is Penneys, where a certain number of stores will be opening for 24 hour periods.
Here’s all you need to know about the retailers’ reopening.
When is Penneys reopening?
Penneys is reopening tomorrow, December 1, in line with the government’s modified Level 3 restrictions.
All 36 stores across the country will be reopening, all with extended trading hours to meet the expected increased customer demand in the lead up to Christmas.
Two stores will operate 24 trading to spread shopping hours and to reduce queues. Stores located in city centres and in major shopping centres will trade until 10pm on weekdays, and stores on main streets in towns across Ireland and in town shopping centres will trade until 9pm on weekdays.
Penneys CEO, Paul Marchant, said: “We are delighted to re-open our stores in Ireland on December 1 with longer shopping hours to give our customers more time to safely do their festive shopping.
“We have everything this season that our customers expect from Penneys, including our famous Christmas jumpers, festive pyjamas and much, much more. All of our extensive safety measures remain in place to help ensure shopping at Penneys is an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone.”
Which Penneys stores will be open 24 hours?
Penneys stores in Dundrum Town Centre and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre will trade for 24 hours from 7am on Wednesday December 2 right through to closing time on Thursday December 3.
Through December, other stores will trade to a minimum time of 9pm on weekdays. Stores on major city streets and shopping centres will be open until 10pm.
Stores trading until 10pm on weekdays include the following: Galway-Eyre Square, Swords, Cork-Wilton, Dundrum, Blanchardstown, Liffey Valley, Nutgrove, Dublin – Mary Street, Limerick-O’Connell Street, Waterford, Cork–Patrick Street, and Dublin – O’Connell Street.
What safety measures have been implemented across stores?
The following Covid safety measures have been introduced across Penneys stores:
- Limiting the number of customers allowed in store at any one time to allow for the appropriate distance between customers and employees.
- Clear signage and floor decals, as well as dedicated employees and security staff, to guide customers through the store in a way that limits contact with others.
- Redesigned the layout of our stores to allow for more space between people by reconfiguring our queuing system at our till points to allow for social distancing. Dedicated employees will be on hand when needed to manage the correct flow of the queue.
- Entry and exit points will be clearly marked.
- Frequent tannoy announcements are made in store reminding customers to adhere to social distancing measures.
