Young boy at centre of ‘Hope for Cian’ campaign passes away

Cian McDonnell Lynch, the young boy at the centre of the ‘Hope for Cian campaign’, passed away last night.

The four-year-old from County Meath suffered from a very severe form of Dyskeratosis Congenita, a rare genetic condition that affects one in a million children worldwide.

His only hope of surviving was to receive a double lung transplant in the US, so his family set up the Hope for Cian campaign to raise the almost €1 million needed to pay for the operation.

However, after being admitted to Crumlin hospital last week to have a liver biopsy, Cian’s condition deteriorated rapidly on Sunday and he was rushed into intensive care.

Last night, his heartbroken family posted the following message on their Hope for Cian Facebook page, “Our beautiful boy is with the angels now. He fought so hard. Heaven is so lucky to have him. We are broken hearted. His Mammy, Daddy and big sister Chloe held his hand until the end. Fly high our beautiful boy where there will be no more suffering or pain.”

We are so saddened to hear of Cian’s passing. Our thoughts are with his family.
