5-year-old boy helps write his own obituary before passing away from cancer

 

His parents held a Celebration of Life over the weekend.

A 5-year-old boy has gone viral for the heartbreakingly funny obituary he helped write for himself. Garrett Matthias passed away on July 6, following his battle with a rare form of cancer - and what his parents describe as as "nine months of hell". His parents, Emilie and Ryan Matthias, began to ask Garrett a series of questions last month when they first learned that his cancer was terminal. They put together his responses, which made up the obituary posted on on Hamilton's Funeral Home. It notes things like his likes: "playing with my sister, my blue bunny, thrash metal, Legos, my daycare friends, Batman", as well as his dislikes: "pants, dirty stupid cancer, and the monkey nose that smells like cherry fart." When he was asked about his death, Garrett said he was "going to be a gorilla and throw poo at Daddy!" [caption id="attachment_314125" align="alignnone" width="540"] Credit: http://www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com[/caption] The young boy was also asked if he wanted to be buried or cremated, to which he replied: "I want to be burned (like when Thor’s Mommy died) and made into a tree so I can live in it when I’m a gorilla)." His parents later added in the obituary that a "symbolic Asgardian burial ceremony" would be held after a Celebration of Life they held for him over the weekend. Garret was also very specific about what he expected his funeral to be like. He told his parents that he didn't want a sad funeral, but instead he wanted "five bouncy houses (because I’m 5), Batman, and snow cones." The obituary closes with the message: "See ya later, suckas! - The Great Garrett Underpants." On Saturday, July 14, his wishes were honoured with a "celebration of his life".
