Keeley Ryan

It’s finally summer reading season.

And while we’re already building up our must-read pile for the next few months, we have a feeling it’s going to be getting even larger.

Especially with some of the new releases coming out.

From mysteries to rom-coms and everything in between, there’s been a number of incredible books hitting the shelves this season.

Whether you’re looking for a book to curl up on the couch with or are looking for a novel to bring along on vacation, check out 6 of our favourites.

Playing with Matches by Hannah Orenstein

When’s it out? June 26 – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

Sasha Goldberg has pretty much everything going for her – that is, until her dream career falls through. So, despite her inexperience, she decides to use her family’s dark secrets to get a job as a matchmaker for NYC’s elite.

After she throws herself into her new career, things appear to be going well – and she hopes to find her clients The One, just like she did.

But the tables are turned when Sasha’s boyfriend betrays her, and she ends up being drawn to a man she previously set up with one of her clients.

A Simple Favour by Darcey Bell

When’s it out? Now – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

The Gone Girl-esque book begins with a seemingly simple favour: Stephanie’s best friend, Emily, asks her to pick up her son from school one day. Their children are best friends, so it’s an easy ‘yes’ for Stephanie.

Only…Emily never returns. And no matter what the police actually say, Stephanie just knows that Emily would never leave her little boy. She reaches out to her fellow mummy bloggers for some support and advice, as well as Emily’s husband.

The only thing that Stephanie never counted on, though, was the dark secrets bubbling up to the surface once again.

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

When’s it out? June 5 – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

Our favourite former assistant to Miranda Priestly is back – and no, we’re not talking about Andy.

Emily Charlton is now a highly successful image consultant and her work has taken  her to Greenwich, Connecticut, where she’s just landed herself the client of a lifetime.

Which, naturally, has landed her in piles of page-turning and delicious drama.

Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering

When’s it out? June 12 – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

When Lucy Albright arrives at the campus of her small California college, she’s ready for a fresh start – and to be miles away from her mum, whom she hasn’t been able to forgive for a betrayal in her teen years.

She soon falls into the college life and all it offers – including new friends, parties and some enthralling classes. But things change when she meets the charming and devastating Stephen DeMarco.

The pair soon fall for each other, but Stephen has a secret in his past that he is determined to keep to himself. However, as their connection grows, Lucy soon finds herself confronting the truth.

The Pisces by Melissa Broder

When’s it out? Now – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

PHD student Lucy is left heartbroken when she and her boyfriend have a dramatic breakup. In an effort to cheer her up, her sister in Los Angeles insists that she dog-sits for the summer at her beach-side home.

Despite it all, though, Lucy is unable to find anything that will keep her distracted.

That is, until she becomes enthralled by an eerily attractive swimmer who is sitting on the rocks one evening. When she learns the truth about who he really is, their relationship starts to take an unexpected turn.

The Favourite Sister by Jessica Knoll

When’s it out? Now – and you can get it here.

What’s it about?

Brett and Kelly Courtney are the queens of a New York-bassed reality TV show called Goal Diggers – which features a fiercely competitive cast of five self-made women, determined to reach the top of their fields no matter what.

The rivalry of the Courtney sisters goes deep, even despite the booming business they have built together. And with their jealousies and dark secrets about their manufactured screen lives, it’s only a matter of time until things bubble to the surface.

The latest series promises that sparks will be flying, as the omnipotent producers orchestrate pleeeenty of drama. The only thing that nobody actually counted on, though, was that season 4 will end in one of the women’s deaths.
