The Royal Christening Wheels: 8 things to know about THAT pram

Sive O'Brien

There was a lot to love about those first glimpses of the Royal Christening that took place in Sandringham yesterday.

But aside from Kate’s stunning dress, Prince George’s adorable outfit and, of course, Princess Charlotte herself, there was also THAT pram.

Here are eight things you may not know about the pram that Kate Middleton pushed at Princess Charlotte’s christening:

1. It is a coach-built, silver-wheeled Millson Prince pram.

2. Founded in the early 20th century, Millson was based on Oxford Street in London, until it closed in the late 1960s.

3. The same pram was used by Queen Elizabeth in 1948 to push Prince Charles to his christening.

4. It was also used in the early 1960s to push the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex – the Princess’ great uncles – around the royal grounds.

5. It has since been refurbished, although retired pram expert, Alison Richardson claims that the knobs on it are ‘wrong’ as they are from a Silver Cross pram. She also added that the Millson is ‘the Rolls Royce of prams’ and the only pram ‘fit for a princess’.

6. The prams were popular for their nanny storage compartment under the foot extension.

7. Millson prams are now collector’s items and remain highly sought after.

8. For anyone who wants to get their hands on a similar traditional style pram (without the antique shopping and restoration), the Silver Cross Balmoral will set you back €1999.
