A broody Vanessa Feltz admits she wants to breastfeed her grandchild

Radio presenter and TV personality, Vanessa Feltz has just been named celebrity Grandparent Of The Year. Yet she’s “incredibly broody” for another child of her own, she admits.

Due to become a granny for the second time any day now, Vanessa’s baby-rearing days are over, but the 53-year-old says she would have breastfed her now 20-month-old grandson, Zeke, if biology had obliged.

“I thought I might be able to,” she told the Mirror. “I thought the love would flood in and I would feel so full of love that the hormones would kick in and I’d be able to breastfeed.

“With the next one would I breastfeed if [my daughter] needed me to? I think, unfortunately, biology doesn’t oblige in these matters, does it?

“It didn’t really ever happen, but I would do anything I could do, obviously.”

It’s not the first time she has spoken about breastfeeding her grandson. In January 2014, when Zeke was born, she told the Daily Mail she was bursting with so much maternal pride she felt the urge to bond and ‘breastfeed.’

There’s no doubt that Vanessa is a doting and loving grandma, but offering to breastfeed her grandchild, for no reason other than she is broody and wants to bond, is one step too far.

She’s not the first grandmother to feel that way. Vanessa’s comments remind me of a lady I once knew who caught her mother-in-law trying to breastfeed her granddaughter. The situation was made all the more strange by the fact the husband had been covering up what his own mother was doing. Needless to say, the couple divorced a short while later.
