Gardaí have asked the public to take a careful look at some items that were discovered near an abandoned baby last Friday in the hope that they might jog somebody’s memory.
Replicas of the items, a pale brown fleece throw or blanket with a white ‘Primark Home’ tag, a small blue cloth, a black bin liner and a green Marks & Spencers bag, were displayed at a press conference this afternoon.
The original items discovered next to the infant when she was found on Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole are currently being forensically tested.
Very little is know about the Caucasian baby girl who carers have named Maria. According to doctors she was between 24 and 36 hours old when she was abandoned and had been fed beforehand.
Commenting on the items displayed, Supt Brendan Connolly said:
“They are common, everyday items found in every home, we are just hoping that somebody seeing the items – particularly the throw – may recognise them and may be in a position to assist us to find mum and to reunite her, if she so wishes, with her baby.
“Our main focus and concern is for the safety of this mum,”
