Abandoned newborn baby named April by carers as concerns grow for mother

The baby was found in the toilet of an amusement arcade

Merseyside Police have released a video of a baby who was abandoned in an amusement arcade toilet yesterday.

The short film was made in an effort to encourage the child’s mother to come forward and shows the contented infant, who carers have called April, sleeping peacefully in Liverpool’s Ormskirk Hospital.

Emergency services rushed to Silcock’s Amusement Arcade in Southport yesterday evening after shocked staff discovered the baby in a disabled toilet.

Detective Inspector Mike Dalton has pleaded with April’s mother to make contact, saying “Our primary concern is for the health of the girl’s mother. She is not in any trouble.

“I would urge April’s mother to urgently come forward or at least seek treatment, as she could suffer medical complications which are potentially very dangerous.

“You are not in trouble, we need to get you back together with your daughter.”
