‘An abrupt end’ Newstalk show cancelled after TEN years on air

It has been confirmed.

Radio presenter Dil Wickremasinghe has announced that her Newstalk show Global Village has been cancelled after a decade on air. The radio host took to Twitter this evening, revealing the 'shocking' news. In a personal statement, she said: "I am shocked and deeply disappointed at this sudden news. "10 years ago, I set out to create a unique radio show which served as a platform to highlight the voices of the most vulnerable in our society and the issues that affect their lives – issues that I personally care passionately about. She continued: "As someone who has first-hand experience of what it feel likes to be on the outside looking in, I will continue to work as a journalist and advocate for those on the margins of our society.

"My heartfelt thanks to all those who have journeyed with me over the years and I look forward to connecting with you all again as I continue to work through different channels for a change." The news comes after the newscaster made the decision to not host her show on Saturday September 17th, in protest of the controversial comments made by fellow presenter George Hook.
