Aer Lingus issue brief statement about flight cancellations and disruptions

There are numerous flight disruptions.

It's bad news if you're flying from Dublin Airport to Gatwick today as Aer Lingus has just made a brief statement about flight cancellations.

Taking to Twitter, the airline said: "Flight disruptions and cancellations are expected due to the closure of airspace over Gatwick.

"Please check your flight status before departing for the airport. Affected guests can be accommodated on the next available flight or cancel and apply for a refund."

Gatwick Airport have asked any customers flying today to not travel to the airport without checking the status of their flight with their airline first.

The airport has also apologised to those affected but stressed that "the safety of all our passengers and staff is their number one priority."

It comes after the airport had to be shut down after a drone flew through its airspace. Authorities believe that it was a deliberate attempt to disrupt flights in the UK's second busiest airport.
