Their son Doug, who regularly took his parents to visit each other, received the news of his father’s passing early on Tuesday morning, but he was not expecting a second call soon afterwards:

“Tuesday morning at 3.52am I got a call from Thomson Hood (nursing home). ‘Your father has passed.’I expected that, I knew it was coming. Then five minutes later at 3.57am, got a call from Richard Place, ‘Doug I’m sorry to tell you that your mother has passed.’

The Wilsons met at highschool where William was a quarterback on the 1939 school football team. Lillian was also an athlete, playing on the school basketball team.

When war broke out and William enlisted, the couple decided to tie the knot, against the wishes of their families, before he left for the front line. They stayed together through thick and thin ever since.

“They were a really loved couple.” says Doug. “Wherever they went, they made lots of friends.”
