Amber Heard is planning on appealing the verdict in Depp’s defamation case.
Yesterday, the jury confirmed that Depp had won the defamation case against Heard over her 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post.
In the piece, the actress wrote about her experiences as a domestic abuse survivor.
Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages, as well as $5 million in punitive damages.
However, the punitive damages were reduced to $350,000.
Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.
The Aquaman star is said to be heartbroken over the result.
She is reportedly planning on appealing the verdict.
After yesterday’s result, Heard issued a statement expressing her disappointment.
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.”
“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback.
“It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke up could be publicly shamed and humiliated.”
She continued, “It sets back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously.”
“I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK.”
“I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American — to speak freely and openly,” Heard added.
Depp said he is “truly humbled” by the result.
“The jury gave me my life back.”
“The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun,” the actor shared.
