Anne Hathaway has opened up about her secret health battle, which left her 'legally blind' for a time.
The American actress (43) revealed she lived with the condition for over a decade, only realising its severity after undergoing corrective surgery.
She went on to say that her condition was putting a strain on her nervous system.
Anne Hathaway was diagnosed with an early-onset cataract in her left eye, a condition where the lens becomes clouded, leaving vision blurred like looking through a fogged-up window.
The condition is mostly caused by the ageing process, during which the lens loses flexibility and thickens. Other risk factors include eye injury, diabetes, and prolonged UV exposure.
Opening up about her condition, Anne said: "I was half blind for ten years."
"It impacted my vision so much that I was basically legally blind out of my left eye, and I wound up getting surgery," she told The New York Times' podcast Popcast.
The Devil Wears Prada actress went on to say: "And I didn't realise how bad it had gotten until I could finally see the full spectrum."
She then reassured fans, saying, "I've calmed down since then," adding, "I didn't realise it was actually taxing my nervous system."
Anne Hathaway isn’t the only star to have undergone cataract surgery, with Elton John and Mila Kunis among the other famous names who have had the procedure.
