A heartbreaking social media appeal has been launched to find any family members of a 75-year-old Irish man who is dying in a hospital in the UK.

Patrick John Mulligan, who is also known as John, is “virtually alone” in the hospital, according to his neighbour, Dave.

He is said to originally be from the west Limerick area, but has been living in the UK for around 20 years.

John is said to have been born in April 1942.

Dave first launched the appeal in a bid to help his “friend and next door neighbour of 20 years”.

The Luton Irish Forum shared the now-viral plea on Facebook on Wednesday evening.

It read:

“My friend and next door neighbour of 20 years is from west Limerick and I am trying to find his family as sadly he is dying in hospital virtually alone apart from my partner and myself.

“His name is Patrick John Mulligan (John). He was born in April 1942.”

The appeal has gone viral across a number of social media channels since it first was shared on Tuesday.

More than 20,000 people have re-shared the original Facebook post in the hopes of being able to find Mr Mulligan’s family members.
