'Showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow' are on the cards for Ireland tonight

We've been waiting on it for a while now.

But it seems like some areas in the country will see snowfall tonight.

Donegal Weather Channel's Kenneth McDonagh said: "Some areas may only see temporary dusting leading to dangerous conditions on road with ice forming.

"Areas across the northwest could see snowfall on the ground for a few hours especially over the Tuesday morning period.

"I expect totals of around 2cm to 6cm for some but also note that some areas may see nothing at all with showers falling at sleet and hail."

Meanwhile, Met Éireann said tonight will be the worst we've seen in a while: "Tonight will bring clear spells and scattered wintry showers, the showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow with the risk of the odd thundery burst. The showers heavy over hills and mountains.

"Cold with frost and icy patches on untreated surfaces. Lowest temperatures will range -2 to +2 degrees Celsius, in a light or moderate westerly breeze."
