Arizona Mum Issues Warning After Son Badly Burned By Water From Garden Hose

A mother from Arizona is urging parents to be vigilant with garden hoses and sprinklers after her son suffered burns when sprayed with one.

According to ABC 15, the 9-month-old suffered second degree burns on 30 per cent of his body when sprayed in the back garden.

Dominique Woodger told the media outlet that the incident happened when she was trying to fill a pool with water earlier this week.

She apparently turned on the tap and extremely hot water came out of the sprinkler head and sprayed her baby who was sitting on the ground.

She said: “It’s heartbreaking. It is. It sucks. All of (the skin) was peeling. He had blisters all over the right side.

“I thought he was crying because he was mad, because he hates when he gets sprayed in the face. I didn’t think that it was burning him.”

Fire captain Larry Subervi told ABC 15 that the heat can cause problems like this when hoses with water in them are sitting out in the sun.

Thankfully, the child is okay and recovering. Following the incident, Ms Woodger is warning parents to always test the water and keep an eye on kids playing with hoses.

While we wouldn’t necessarily have such problems in Ireland (in terms of water overheating when sitting in hoses left outside), it is important to be cautious.
