Asda withdraw nappies after baby suffers ‘chemical reaction’

Supermarket chain Asda, who have 17 stores in Northern Ireland, have withdrawn their newborn nappy after a 'chemical reaction' left a premature baby blistered and requiring oxygen.

British supermarket chain Asda have withdrawn their own-brand newborn nappy after the father of a premature baby posted pictures on Facebook showing his son's 'chemical reaction' to the product. Jordan Bartliff posted the shocking images in a bid to warn other parents about the retailer's range of Little Angels newborn nappies. The concerned dad, whose little boy was born five weeks premature, said the reaction left his son requiring oxygen:

"Yesterday morning has to be the worst day of our lives so far, we opened a fresh pack of newborn Little Angels to put on the baby - we go to change the nappy an hour later and these pictures are the results... It looks like a chemical reaction as confirmed by the hospital - he's been wearing the same nappies for three weeks prior to this with no problems whatsoever."

Mr Bartliff added that it may have been a "bad batch" of nappies that left his baby boy with red raw and visibly blistered skin. An Asda spokesperson advised that they have now withdrawn the product from sale as a precautionary measure.
