Ashling Murphy’s school pays emotional tribute to late teacher

Ashling Murphy’s school has paid tribute to her, four weeks after her tragic murder.

The 23-year-old teacher has been fondly remembered as a passionate and caring teacher.

Scoil Cholmcille, Durrow National School in Tullamore held a month’s mind this week.

They also shared a memorial dedicated to Ashling in the school.

The touching tribute features beautiful photos of Ms. Murphy.

The school stated, “We remember Ms. Ashling Murphy on this day. “Our Shining Light” will never be forgotten and always in our hearts. We love you Ashling.”

“Today, 4 weeks on, our school remembers our dear Ashling Murphy.

“We are holding a special month’s mind mass in Durrow church at 11am.”

“Ashling will always be our shining light. We love you,” the school added.

The tribute to Ashling features a photo from her graduation surrounded by love hearts. The love hearts feature the names of students from the school.

It also has photos to represent Ashling’s passions including music and GAA.

A sign on the board reads, “Fly in the sky. Our shining light”.

Another says, “Forever in our hearts.”

The school’s principal James Hogan said Ashling was the dream teacher.

The principal said she was bubbly and was always smiling.

“She would reach out to any child in our community and had a great rapport with them and network with the parents.”

After Ashling’s devastating death, Principal Hogan said Ashling “was one in a million.”

“Ashling had so much going for her and to think that it’s been all taken away from her, unplanned. It’s just heartbreaking.

We’re keeping Ashling’s loved ones in our thoughts, always.
