Free tea for breastfeeding mums – yes, please

Sive O'Brien

Anyone who has breastfed knows just how tricky it can be to find somewhere to feed when baby decides they’re hungry. And by hungry, you know what I mean – things can go from calm to full-tilt screams and red-faced frustration within seconds of deciding they decide they want the boob – and you can be stuck in traffic or in the middle of the supermarket. Eeek!

Yep, we’ve all been there.

How cool would it be to know there was a local café welcoming you with open arms, ploughing you with free tea while you’re stuck to a seat trying to get baby from red-faced ‘hanger’, to calm, happy and smiley, all-full-up baby?

Bottle feeding parents, you’re obviously welcome also and the same offer applies. We also have nappy changing facilities. I was appalled to hear that recently, a café in our town ordered some feeding mums to “cover up or leave”!!

Like really??? I see more boob on a Saturday night in the pub than I do when someone is feeding their baby. Folks need to get over it!! Breastfeed those babies with us anytime ladies.

We hear ya, sista. Now, if they can just add free chocolate brownies to the mix and open up on our shores, we’ll all be queuing to get in. In the meantime, search out your local feeding room, most shopping centres have them and the chats with the other mums feeding too can be great.
