Author Katherine Rundell says that every adult should read these children's books
Looking for a good winter read?
If you are you may be surprised by some of the titles mentioned in this list but there's a good reason why you won't find any romance or thrillers.
The reason being that they are all children's books. That's right, books that were written specifically for children. Why?
According to author Katherine Rundell recommended that all adults read these five children's books because children's literature makes us more hopeful and optimistic.
Rundell who wrote 'Why You Should Read Children’s Books, Even Though You Are So Old and Wise' says that if you want to stay wide-eyed and optimistic you should crack these five books over the summer.
- Peter Pan by JM Barrie
- One Dog and His Boy by Eva Ibbotson
- Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
- His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman
- The Paddington books by Michael Bond
While several of these books were my favourites as a child I haven't pulled them off the bookshelf for myself in a long time.
Haven't recently re-read the Harry Potter series as an adult I found I noticed and appreciated different things that I hadn't spotted the first time around.
So whether you want a trip down memory lane or simply want the thrill of reliving your favourite childhood adventure you should definitely pick up one of these books and fall in love with them all over again.
