Baby Found at Recycling Centre ‘Did Not Die Violently’

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Gardaí have confirmed there is no evidence that a baby found at a Co. Wicklow recycling facility died a violent death.

Earlier this week an autopsy revealed that the infant was born weeks earlier than originally thought. Detectives have now widened the net for clues as to the baby girl’s identity.

Officers are now working with Greenstar to figure out where each load of recycling and waste that was deposited at the Fassaroe centre came from.

Meanwhile Gardaí have renewed their appeal for the child’s mother to come forward and seek medical help. Speaking at a press conference, Superintendent Pat Ward, who is leading the investigation said:

“We don’t know what exactly happened leading up to the birth of the baby. However, it is possible that the baby was still born and if this is the case my priority now is to get all medical assistance and support to the baby’s mum.

“I am very concerned for the welfare of the mum of this baby as she is possibly in a distressed state and in need of medical assistance.”

Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, has set up a dedicated support helpline manned by experienced staff on 076 6958400.
