She was released earlier this week.

A baby girl who was found in a drain in Mumbai at just 5 days old has been discharged from hospital.

The baby was rescued after a “good Samaritan” called emergency services to report that a baby had been “dumped in a drain”.

“He was alerted when the neighbourhood cats created a ruckus,” Mumbai Police said.

He found the infant wrapped in cloth and alerted the police. Once the child was rescued, she was brought to hospital and kept under observation as a precaution.

“She was completely fine when she was admitted but we were a little worried because she was abandoned and found in a drain, but she was fine,” Vidya Thakur, medical superintendent of the hospital, told CNN.

The baby was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and was handed over to Mumbai’s Child Welfare Committee.

She is now being taken care of at a shelter home.

Senior Police Inspector Suhas Kamble told CNN that an investigation is ongoing.
