“I was trapped”
Ben Affleck has come under fire over disrespectful comments he made about ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
The actor was speaking to Howard Stern about his addiction and claimed he would “still be drinking” if he stayed married.
People are understandably furious at Affleck for supposedly ‘blaming’ their marriage for his addiction problems.
He said he felt “trapped” in their marriage.
“It’s part of why I started drinking… because I was trapped.”
“I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
“The truth was, we took our time, we made the decision… We grew apart.”

“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer. Ultimately, we tried.”
“We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”
Fans expressed their outrage over the comments on Twitter.
One said 13 Going On 30 star Garner deserves better than that, especially given how much she helped Affleck when he was in rehab.
Another said, “Don’t blame your drinking problems on your ex-spouse.”
“Really? I was sure he was an alcoholic and gambler addict before marrying Jennifer Garner and that she helped him control himself.”
“He’s always been an alcoholic, not cool to blame his ex-wife and mother of his kids, especially when she’s been there and so good to him. I’m a Ben fan, but that’s not right,” another wrote.
Garner and Affleck tied the knot in 2005 but split in 2015. The pair share three children together.
