More than one hundred women in the United States have filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the makers of a birth control pill, claiming that a packaging error led them to take placebo pills instead of active pills.
Of the 113 women who claim to have become pregnant while taking the pill, recalled in 2011 by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, 94 went on to give birth. They are now suing the manufacturer for pain and suffering, child-rearing expenses and lost wages.
Endo, the parent company of Qualitest, sent a statement to
Fox 9 saying the recall of 500,000 blister packs containing pills branded Cyclafem, Emoquette, Gildess, Orsythia, Previfem and Tri-Previfem, was four years ago and based on an "extremely small number of pill packs."
The class action suit was filed in Philadelphia.
