It’s reported that the body of a man has been discovered in County Carlow this morning.
It’s thought the man died during the cold weather of the past few days.
He may have died as a result of hypothermia during Storm Emma, according to the Independent.
Local station KCLR 96FM is reporting that he was in his 80s.
We’ve contacted the Gardaí for more information and will update the story as we get it.
This news comes after the Taoiseach warned yesterday that we may only learn of fatalities from the storm today as the clean-up gets underway.
After speaking with members of the emergency services in Wexford on Sunday, Leo Varadkar told TV3 News that people who have died may not have been found yet.
“There have actually been a number of deaths very sadly,” he said.
“Well there have been a couple of car accidents I suppose it’s difficult to know whether they were caused by the storm or whether they would have happened in any case.
“And of course there is the possibility that as we clear the road, as we get out to isolated areas that we may find people dead in their homes in the coming days.”
Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, the Taoiseach said it wasn’t clear yet how long the clean-up operation would take.
