The body of a missing child has been discovered at a seaside resort in the UK.
The six-year-old girl’s body was found in the grounds of an abandoned hotel in Rothesay, a town on the Isle of Bute, this morning just hours after she was reported missing.
Police were informed that the little girl, who was from the area, had disappeared from her family home at around 6.25am.
A search was launched, with calls for local people to check their properties being shared on social media, according to The Telegraph.
A child’s body was recovered a few hours later in a woods on the grounds of an old hotel.
She has been named locally as Alesha Macphail.
The cause of her death is not yet clear.
“At around 9am the body of a young female child was discovered in the grounds of an old hotel, Cames Hydro Hotel,” a spokesperson for Police Scotland said.
“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.”
The island, in Scotland’s Firth of Clyde, is popular with holiday-makers in the summer months.
