Body of newborn baby found in airplane bathroom during flight

The body of a newborn baby was found on board a flight shortly before it was due to land yesterday.

The discovery was made on an AirAsia flight to Delhi in India.

The infant was found “lifeless” by staff in the airplane bathroom as they were preparing for landing.

The plane had come from Imphal in the north east of the country via the city of Guwahati, reports India Today.

It landed and was docked at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Police officials were dispatched to the aircraft and all of the female passengers on board were questioned.

A teenage girl, believed to have boarded at Guwahati, was identified as the mother and has been arrested.

The infant was confirmed by medical examiners to have been delivered on the flight. Police are now investigating whether it was a stillbirth.

The girl suspected to be the mother is receiving medical care.

A police investigation has been launched and AirAsia has said that it will cooperate fully.

“The matter has been reported to DGCA and the airline’s staff are attending to other guests and cooperating with Delhi Police,”the airline said in a statment to NDTV.

“We will be assisting in the investigation and cooperating with all concerned agencies.”
