The body of a woman, believed to be Irish, has been found on a beach in India.
The victim, who is reportedly in her 20s, was found in Canacona, a coastal resort in Goa.
According to reports, she had injuries to her head and face and was severely beaten.
It’s thought she was a holiday in the district with a friend and had arrived in the area on Sunday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement to The Irish Times:
“Ireland’s Embassy in New Delhi is in contact with Indian authorities in relation to reports of an incident involving an Irish citizen,” it said in a statement to The Irish Times.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stands ready to provide consular assistance”.
It is believed that that the woman travelled to India using a British passport.
