The Bodyguard is coming back!

The popular BBC series, which originally aired in 2018, is set to return and we honestly couldn’t be happier.

Lead star Richard Madden is set to reprise his role as David Budd.

According to writer Jed Mercurio, they’re eager to start filming the long-awaited second series.

He is no longer as busy since wrapping season 6 of Line of Duty.

Madden has just finished filming Disney’s The Eternals so the time has finally come for work to start on the second season of the hit TV series.

An insider told The Sun: “The drama is the most eagerly-anticipated in the world of TV and all the stars are finally aligning.

“Mercurio has always been too preoccupied with Line of Duty to apply himself to Bodyguard II, and after the show’s success, Madden was snapped up by Hollywood,” they added.

“Now with both men available, the creative process has kicked off and the BBC are thrilled it could materialise within the next two years,” the source shared.

Season one of The Bodyguard follows war veteran David Budd who is assigned to protect the home secretary, Rt Hon Julia Montague MP (Keeley Hawes).

Budd increasingly finds himself at odds with Montague’s controversial policies and her personality. He also has to tackle his ongoing trauma from his time serving in Afghanistan.

The veteran is left torn between his beliefs and his duty to protect.

Over 11 million people tuned into the series’ thrilling finale so there’s no doubt people will be thrilled to hear the show is returning.

We may have to wait another two years for the series to air but we’re sure it’ll be worth it.

For now, we’ll just have to re-watch season 1, which is available on Netflix.
