Director Richard Linklater paid tribute to his own parents and parents everywhere at the 72nd Golden Globes, held last night in Beverly Hills.

Accepting the best director gong for his epic film Boyhood, Linklater took the opportunity to speak to mums and dads watching across the world: “I want to dedicate this to parents that are evolving everywhere and families that are just passing through this world and doing their best.

“Bottom line is we’re all flawed in this world. No one’s perfect,”

Boyhood, which took 12 years to make, was the big winner on the night, also taking the gong for best picture and best drama. Its star Patricia Arquette scooped best supporting actress.

Other winners on Sunday night included British actor Eddie Redmayne, who won best actor in a drama for his portrayal of physicist Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and Downton’s Abbey’s Joanna Froggat, who scooped best supporting actress in a TV series for her character Anna Bates.

The stars were out in force for the glittering ceremony, with nominee Keira Knightly (The Imitation Game) showing off her baby bump in a stunning butterfly print Chanel gown. New mum Roasmund Pike, also a nominee (Gone Girl) turned heads in an eye-catching cut-out Vera Wang creation, showing off her svelte figure just one month after giving birth to her second child.
