The body of a baby was found washed ashore on the coastline of Greece, early yesterday morning.
Just one month after young Syrian refugee, three-year-old Aylan Kurdi was found on a beach in Bodrum, Turkey – this is yet another tragedy to silence the world.
The child’s body was badly decomposed and is reported by the Greek Reporter to have been a little girl, believed to have been between 6 months and a year old. A post mortem is yet to be done.
Reuters reports that the Greek Coastguard made the unspeakable discovery. The spot on the Aegean coast where the child’s body was found is one of the main crossing points Syrian nationals have used to gain entry into Europe. The escalating migrant crisis has seen thousands of refugees take the treacherous journey. According to Khabar.eu, babies and children are the main victims of this dangerous crossing, with bodies of 15 children found off another Greek island, Farmakonisi in Septmeber. A horrific tragedy.
