Add us as a preferred source on Google »Brian Dowling has opened up about a frightening discovery involving his family's privacy, revealing that their home address was shared online as part of the abuse he and his husband Arthur Gourounlian have faced.
The Irish presenter is exploring the darker side of online trolling in his new Virgin Media documentary, Toxic Threads, which is airing tonight.
The documentary looks at the impact of online harassment and the people behind anonymous accounts on social media and discussion platforms.
Brian and Arthur, who share two daughters, Blake and Blu, have had cruel comments thrown at them online about their family, including their journey to becoming parents and their children's appearance.
However, the discovery of a Google map leading directly to their front door was particularly frightening.
In an earlier post, announcing the documentary, Brian revealed that the abuse included "deaths threats, to comments regarding the colour of my children's skin and appearance, to homophobia and even more frightening, a Google map directly to my front door."
The presenter has also admitted that the experience has affected his confidence when leaving the house with his kids.
Speaking about the impact of the abuse, Brian said he wanted to understand why people choose to target others anonymously online and what can be done to hold them accountable.
He previously described making the documentary as a form of therapy, explaining that it allowed him to confront experiences that had affected him and his family for years.
Toxic Threads will air on Virgin Media One tonight, Monday, October 12th a 9:00pm.
