To help cheer her daughter up, the mum told her she could wear any dress she liked. When they went shopping the 9-year-old instantly fell in love with a long white dress.
The mum didn't see an issue with it and purchased the dress for her daughter.
“I didn’t have a problem with it because it made my daughter happy,” she admitted.
However, when the young girl arrived at the wedding in a white dress, the bride was less than impressed.
The mum said everyone was staring at them at the wedding.
The Maid of Honour approached the mum, her husband and daughter and said they had to leave.
“At the reception, my cousin's sister (who is also the maid of honour) came up to me and my daughter and said that we had to leave immediately,” she revealed.
“I said that it’s not a big deal and that her sister shouldn’t be jealous of a 9-year-old. Then she said that I have always been a brat and that this is the one day where no one is going to tolerate it.”
The rest of the family got involved and forced them to leave.
“My daughter started crying so we left. Since then, my entire family (other than my parents) have been harassing me via text saying that I should apologize."
The mum was met with a heap of criticism from Reddit users.
Many stressed how disrespectful it was to wear white to a wedding. They said it is the one wedding rule everyone is aware of.
“Wearing a white dress is literally the one rule of weddings. You did this on purpose to be vindictive and you're mad you got called on your s---."
Others said she should just apologise, especially because she upset the bride on her special day.
However, some users sided with the mum and said the bride and her family members were being pretty dramatic.
Others said involving her daughter in the drama was extremely unfair.
"You set your child up to create a spectacle.”
Do you think the mum was in the wrong or did the bride have a right to be upset?
