The forecast isn't the best, lads
If you're making plans for this weekend, keep in mind that Ireland is set for a wet and windy one.
Met Eireann has forecast winds to reach gale force on Saturday and temperatures will plummet to below freezing. The drop in temperatures will lead to ice and fog, with a decent chance of snow in some parts.
The west will see the worst weather, as a Met Eireann spokesperson explained: "Although the dominant airflow appears to be from a mild southwesterly direction during the period, the positioning of the centre of the high to the southwest of Ireland in the near Atlantic will also favour a cold northwesterly airflow at times, which could bring brief periods of colder temperatures
"Potential hazards include fog, and occasionally frosty and icy conditions with the chance of wintry showers, chiefly in the north and northwest."
Here’s how things are looking for the weekend ahead:
Saturday, January 29th
It'll be cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain Saturday morning, with temperature highs of 8 to 10 degrees.
Westerly winds will increase as the day goes on, with more persistent rain moving over the country. The winds will increase to gale force for areas in the north.
Saturday night will be a cold one — expect lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees with patchy frost and light winds. If it's going to snow, this is when it'll happen.
Sunday, January 30th
Expect outbreaks of rain for many areas, particularly in the west and northwest.
It'll be a little warmer with highs of 9 to 11 degrees, dropping to overnight lows of 2 to 5 degrees.
