“There’s help and there’s hope”

Fair City actor Bryan Murray has revealed he has Alzheimer’s.

The 73-year-old actor revealed he was diagnosed three years ago, but felt it was time to open up about the diagnosis. He hopes his honesty will help others who are also struggling.

He told the RTÉ Guide, “I wish I didn’t have it, but I do have it, and I’m still here. I have it and I am working with it.”

Murray explained that he went to the doctor after his wife Úna Crawford O’Brien grew concerned about his memory.

After multiple tests, the doctor told him he had Alzheimer’s disease.

Despite the devastating diagnosis, the Strumpet City actor said he is focusing on the present moment.

“I really wanted to let it be known this was my situation and that for anyone who’s been recently diagnosed, there is an answer to it.”

“It’s not the end of the world. It’s the changing of your world, but not the end.”

The actor stressed that there is always hope, even during the darker days.

“My concern is for people who are at the beginning stages. There are people out there to support you, there’ll be some kind of a medical breakthrough down the line.

“I really want to stress that there’s help and there’s hope.”
