Bye Bye (Royal) Baby! The Cambridge Clan Leave Canada

Katie Mythen-Lynch

The young royals have bid a final farewell to Canada, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte having captured the hearts of the Commonwealth during the family’s eight-day tour.

The Cambridge clan left Victoria Harbour Airport by float plane at 4pm local time, with little Charlotte climbing aboard the waiting aircraft all by herself.

Prince William said he and his wife were “incredibly grateful to the people of Canada” for the warmth and hospitality they extended to their family.

“We have loved our time in British Columbia and Yukon and will never forget the beautiful places we have seen and the many people who have been kind enough to come to welcome us in person.” he said.

“We feel very lucky to have been able to introduce George and Charlotte to Canada. This country will play a big part in the lives of our children and we have created such happy memories for our family during this visit.

“Canada is a country of optimism, generosity and unrivalled natural beauty. I hope we have helped all Canadians celebrate what makes this country great. We will see you again soon.”

The Duchess rounded off a stylish week in a cream coat dress by Catherine Walker, with three-year-old George sporting his traditional knee socks and his 17-month-old sister wearing an adorable printed dress.

The visit has been hailed a resounding success, but sources say it will be last family engagement for a while. Kate and Wills are said to be determined to give their brood a normal upbringing away from the world’s cameras.

While the Duke and Duchess toured picturesque Yukon, Vancouver, Kelowna, Bella Bella and Haida Gwaii, sailed the Victoria Inner Harbour and spoke to young people about mental health issues in Canada, their schedule also allowed time for plenty of fun.

The two youngest royals attended a children’s party for military families in Victoria – and needless to say, the adorable rugrats stole the show.

So what’s next for everybody’s favourite royals?

Well, sources say the Duke and the Duchess are keen to expand their family. According to a palace insider, the couple are hoping to welcome a sibling for three-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte (17 months) in 2017.
