A cake shield will allow children to safely blow out candles on their birthday cake

Did anyone celebrate a lockdown birthday at your house?

We had no less than two at our house, and while we did blow out candles on the cakes as we were only family present, it did make me wonder what will become of this tradition now in the new normal.

I mean; blowing on a cake and have everyone else at the party eat it after seems positively crazy at this stage, no?

However, it seems there might be a solution.

Billy Kaye, a dentist from Florida, has created “cake shields” – so kids can still blow out their birthday candles even in this new post-Covid world.

According to Today, Kaye wanted to find a way to make sure that everyone could blow out their birthday candles and still serve the cake safely to all their guests after.

Kaye explained that this has always been on his mind, even before the pandemic started. He would think about how germs are spread by the simple act of blowing out birthday candles. Now that the need is very apparent, the dentist started to work on a prototype.

And it seems it didn’t take him very long to come up with a prototype. Back in April, Kaye had come up with the ‘Top It Cake Shield,’ and now the product is getting ready to be launched online on September 15th.

There are three different sizes available. There is one for quarter-sheet cakes, round cakes, and even individual slices. The polystyrene cover connects around the cake so that it is completely covered.

How it works?

There are slots on the top for candles to be put in it, so while someone makes their wish and blows out their candle, the cake is completely covered.

Sounds amazing? We know!
