The letterbox was "a fraction of her size."

“The wee kitten would have suffered terrible pain.”

An animal rescue charity has appealed for information after a kitten was pushed through its letterbox last week.

The Cavan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CSPCA) said that a staff member had found the kitten in its shop on Friday morning.

She had suffered severe injury during the incident and had to be put down afterwards, the group said in a post on Facebook.

“So this morning we discovered this gorgeous wee kitten in our shop after some cruel individual decided it was a good idea to shove her through our (very small) letterbox,” the post reads.

“Due to this person’s actions this wee baby has now been put to sleep after the vet discovered she had severe irreparable internal damage.

“This is beyond shocking and the wee kitten would have suffered terrible pain being forced through a letterbox a fraction of her size.”

The charity said that it had reported the incident to the Gardaí and that a local newspaper would be running the story.

It also appealed for members of the public with any information to come forward to help identify who had been involved.
