Charles Spencer to share ‘the most intimate’ portrait of Princess Diana in new book

Charles Spencer will open up about his sister, Princess Diana, in Swan Song

The book “tells the astonishing story of his life with Diana and the tragic week of her death."

The book will also contain “revelations that will draw considerable attention”.

Spencer's book will mark the first time he has spoken publicly about his late sister since her untimely passing in 1996.

In childhood, Charles and Diana, the youngest Spencers, were inseparable – secretly calling one another Duch and Carlos. As each other’s closest confidantes, they roamed the family estate, endured extremely challenging boarding schools, survived terrifying nannies and helped each other through the agony of their parents’ divorce. Yet everything changed when Diana married the Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, and overnight became a global icon.

Speaking about why the time felt right to write this book, Charles Spencer explained:

“With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister.

“This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time."

He added, "The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral. As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way."
