Check out Áras an Uachtaráin’s newest Christmas card (it’s magic!)

Some of my absolutely favourite things comprise 2015’s Irish Christmas card from Aras an Uachtaráin – gingers, mothers with their babies, and mothers feeding their babies. Hurrah!

President Michael D Higgins has dared to be different with his official festive greeting which will feature a breastfeeding Madonna.

The image of ‘Madonna of the Green Cushion’ will be sent to hundreds of heads of states and diplomats around the world at the beginning of next week, how cool is that?!

Xmas card

It’s from a copy of a painting which was given to him from a breastfeeding mother after an audience with him in Áras an Uachtaráin. Monica Wocial-Finke was one of a hundred breastfeeding mothers invited to Mr Higgins’ home to celebrate ‘Breastfeeding Week’.

The 16th-century painting, which currently resides at the Louvre in Paris, is widely considered to be a powerful symbol of care and love.

The choice has received widespread praise and we really think it is so well deserved. Isn’t that a kind of amazing validation to all breastfeeding mothers from our President? Not to mention, gingers too!

Two thumbs up from us for Michael D!!
