Cheers! Three glasses of bubbly per day can stave off dementia

Katie Mythen-Lynch

If you have expensive tastes when it comes to your choice of tipple, you might be doing yourself a favour in the long run.

Alcohol can be marvelous at helping one to forget, but new research shows that drinking three glasses of Champagne per day could also help stave off dementia and Alzheimer’s in later life.

Apparently it’s all down to a particular compound found only in the pinot noir and pinot meunier, which are both used to make pricey bubbly.

According to Professor Jeremy Spencer of Reading University, the results of tests on rats were ‘dramatic’.

‘This research is exciting because it illustrates for the first time that moderate consumption of champagne has the potential to influence cognitive functioning such as memory.’ he told the Mail on Sunday.

The team now hope to continue their trials using humans.

Any volunteers?
