The most devastating loss in Miami

The Florida condo collapse has caused immense loss and heartache for families in the city of Miami. One father, in particular, was faced with every parent’s worst nightmare when his 7-year-old daughter’s body was discovered amongst the destruction.

The firefighter found his daughter’s body when he was searching through the rubble on Thursday night.

His crew members helped remove her body on a gurney. The dad placed his jacket and an American flag over his little girl’s body, according to Local10.

Speaking of the harrowing loss, Miami Fire Rescue Chief Joseph Zahralban commented, “Our hearts and prayers are with the families affected by this horrific tragedy. We can confirm that a member of our City of Miami Fire Department family has lost his 7-year-old daughter in the collapse.”

“She was recovered last night by members of our Urban Search and Rescue Team, Florida Task Force 2. We ask that you respect the privacy of the immediate family as well as our Fire Department family while we grieve our loss and support our own,” he added.

It is believed 24 people lost their lives in the collapse. Approximately 121 people remain missing.

Part of the Champlain Towers South building collapsed on June 24. The remainder of the building was demolished over safety fears as a tropical storm approaches Florida.

Storm Elsa is set to reach Florida on Tuesday.

Crews are working tirelessly to find victims amongst the rubble. What caused the building to collapse remains unclear.
