The fires reached a new intensity over the weekend.

Chris and Liam Hemsworth have pledged $1 million to help the Australian bushfires fund.

The Thor actor shared a video on social media this week encouraging others to donate what they could in aid of the rescue workers risking their lives and those providing relief to the worst affected areas.

The bushfire situation in New South Wales reached new levels of concern last week when a state of emergency was issued due to increased risk of fire danger.

It is thought that up to one billion animals have died as a direct result of the fires.

“Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia,” said Chris on Instagram. “My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too.”

“I’ve added links to support the fire fighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time.

“Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations. It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya.”

Liam then reposted his brother’s plea to show his support for the pledge.

It is expected that Australian bushfires may only get worse as the country’s heatwave season approaches.
