Claire's Accessories is recalling a popular kids' toy over choking fears

If your child has a Squishy Keyring from Claire’s Accessories, you may be best advised to take it off them.

Claire’s is recalling the popular keyring toys this week over fears that they could be a choking hazard for small children.

The retailer has issued a voluntary recall on several batches of the animal-shaped keyrings sold between May and October of this year.

A notice on the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) website states that small parts on the toy could fall off and be swallowed by young children and could lead to choking.

“The ‘Squish me!’ squeeze toys are representing baby animal characters in a shape, colour and size which is very attractive for children under 36 months,” it reads.

“As small parts detach very easily from these toys, a young child may choke when ingesting a small part.”

The product codes for the batches of Squishy Keyrings are 50175, 50179, 50206, 49956 and 50101.

Consumers are advised that they can get their money back for the toys at any Claire’s store.

“If you have purchased the above product you should stop using it immediately and return it to your nearest Claire’s store for a full refund,” the statement continues.
