Gardaí issue statement over ‘security threat’ sent to schools in Clare

Some schools have been forced to close over the threatening messages.

An Garda Síochána has issued a statement in regard to the “security threat” sent to a number of education establishments in Clare on Tuesday (11 February).

A number of schools in the county have been forced to close after receiving the threatening messages.

In a statement, Gardaí said they are satisfied that the security threat is “not credible”.

They added that there is “no ongoing risk to the public”.

“An Garda Síochána is aware of a communication that has been sent to a number of educational establishments in Co. Clare today, Tuesday 11th February 2025.

“Following initial assessment, Gardaí are satisfied that the security threat is not credible and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

“Gardaí are engaging with the affected educational establishments with regard to this incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing. No further information is available at this time.”

In a statement, Fianna Fáil TD for Clare, Cathal Crowe, said: “Gardai acted swifty on this ‘threat’ and have now confirmed to me that there is no active threat.

“This was a very scary incident for parents, students, school staff and the public and I have full trust in Clare’s Gardai to properly investigate this and establish all the facts.”
