The clocks go forward on Mother’s Day so mamas will get even less sleep (groan)

Alan Loughnane

Daylight savings = sleep havoc for parents.

Daylight savings is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months by one hour, so that evening daylight lasts an hour longer, while sacrificing normal sunrise times.

The time is once again changing this weekend, but unfortunately it’s not the nice, generous change which leaves you with an extra hour of sleep; it’s the other (far less fun) time going forward. Yes, the clocks will go forward one hour this weekend and we will all have one less hour in bed.

It happens at 1am this Sunday, March 26 (Mother’s Day). So in advance of the change, you might want to set a reminder to change all the clocks and electrical devices in your house to the correct time.

You probably don’t have to worry about updating the time on your smartphone as the vast majority of phones will do so automatically, but just to be sure, you can go to: Settings > Time & Date> and make sure the automatic date & time feature is enabled.

It will be Sunday, October 29 at 2am before the clocks go backwards again. Getting one hour less in bed is not all bad though, because it will genuinely mean there will be a grand stretch in the evenings…
