Corrie fans upset after David Platt makes homophobic comments

Coronation Street fans were left upset after David Platt made homophobic comments to Billy the vicar.

David was working on community service with another offender when Billy entered and told them they weren’t painting the wall correctly.

The offender says” “We all know what you’re after,” to which David responds “My back’s staying firmly against this wall. Sorry vicar, we don’t service your community.”

Billy, clearly shaken, then says: “Just cover it up,” and David says, “Bet that’s the first time you’ve ever said that to a bloke.”

The show’s viewers were decidedly unimpressed with David’s comments and took to Twitter to complain about his homophobic behaviour.

“How dare David Pratt treat our vicar in this manner,” said one person. “Oh David’s homophobia, poor Billy.”

“David, please don’t become homophobic over what happened to you,” said another.

However, it then became apparent that David’s outburst wasn’t something to do with an ingrained homophobia, but a response to the trauma he endured as a result of his sexual assault.

David was raped by Josh Tucker earlier on this year and has since struggled to cope with romantic relationships, PTSD, and his own masculinity.

After verbally attacking Billy, David eventually has a chat with the vicar, opening up to him about the assault and how it affected him.

David is expected to take justice into his own hands later on this year as Josh returns to the soap.

While police couldn’t find any evidence against Josh to prosecute him, David will become fixated on ensuring that his attacker gets what he deserves.
